My love for making curtains started long before the idea of setting up Hung, Drawn and
Quilted.
There’s something so simple yet magical about making curtains. I don’t think I ever get tired
of it. Every time I start a new set, I get that little spark of excitement — like I’m about to
create something that will completely transform a room.
Curtains might seem like a small detail, but to me, they bring a space to life. They add
warmth, colour, and texture, and they can totally change the mood of a room just by the way
they hang or move with the light.
Choosing the right fabric.
I enjoy the whole process, but my love for making curtains starts from the moment I start
choosing fabric.
I’m already imagining how it will look once it’s finished. Sometimes I go for light and airy
materials that let the sunlight filter through softly, perfect for a cosy, relaxed feel.
Other times, I’m drawn to heavier fabrics like velvet or linen for that elegant, dramatic touch.
And then there are the fun projects — mixing patterns, adding trims or tie-backs, or
experimenting with layered sheers. It’s amazing how creative you can get with something as
simple as curtains!
Sewing them is one of my favourite parts. There’s a rhythm to it that I find really calming —
the measuring, cutting, pressing, and stitching. It’s a little meditative in a way. I put on some
music or a podcast, settle in with my sewing machine, and before I know it, hours have
passed.
When I hang the finished curtains and see how they drape perfectly, it’s such a rewarding
feeling.
My love for making curtains is confirmed.
Each pair of curtains I make feels personal. No two are exactly the same, and that’s where my
love for making curtains is confirmed — every project has its own personality.
It’s so special knowing that something handmade will be part of someone’s home. Other
times I make them for myself just because I want to change things up in my own space.
Either way, it’s always such a satisfying creative outlet.
For me, making curtains is about more than just sewing — it’s about creating atmosphere and
comfort. It’s about that cosy feeling when the light filters through just right or when you pull
them closed at the end of the day. It’s a simple craft that brings a lot of joy, both in the
making and in the finished result.
I like to believe that you will be able to see the evidence of my love for making curtains
within the finished product. If you would like to see my work and experience first-hand, my
